University Research in the UK

The higher education institutions of the United Kingdom are running in second place behind United States Institutions for research developments. In a world that recognizes progress, cutting edge research is a reliable predictor of economic growth.

Decision makers from the United Kingdom government are currently reviewing the legislative changes necessary to encourage more university research.

A 2010 government spending review created some raised eyebrows amongst politicians and political commentators in the UK. Since then, parliament has demanded a high standard from university research groups. Nobody is certain if parliament will be more forthcoming with research funding in the near future.

With the next general election coming up, research grants could factor into policy debate. However, private research partners could provide some much-needed funding assistance to help bolster UK research efforts.

University research departments will need to do their part to meet the administrative requirements of funding partners in order to stay in the game.
