Reality Construct and Career Success

success what it looks like

The cornerstone of the career coaching training we do at Career Life College is based upon the philosophy of ‘reality-construct’.

These ideas are not new but have been around 1000’s of years and inform much of the thinking around positive psychology and some cognitive therapies.  At the end of the day, we need to take full responsibility for the way we think, feel and behave for these set us in motion towards or away from the outcomes we want in our life.

Life will continue to throw up multitudes of challenges – but ultimately, it is not the challenge but our perspective of it which determines the progress towards our own self-defined success.

These ideas are not new, for instance see:   Stoic Philosophers

Narrative & Constructivist Approaches to Career Counselling

A narrative is a story.  A construct is how something is assembled or put together.

Hence, narrative and constructivist counselling seeks to help a client understand their ‘career-life story’ and the major influences on how that story is assembled.

For instance, all of us have a ‘story-bank’ about who we are and how we fit into the world.  These approaches to counselling assumes that we all choose to live according to the stories from our story bank which suit us in particular situations and at particular times (Chartrand et al., 1995).
